Halftime heaven. | January 31, 2009 | Comments (11)

We’ve got everything we need for sliders, I’m making my famous homemade french fries, if we had a single additional bottle of booze in our cabinet we’d probably need a liquor license. We have a ton of extra snacks (chips, lemons, Chili Cheese Fritos, white cheddar popcorn, mozzarella sticks…) and no other plans tomorrow other than to camp out and watch the Superbowl and the Puppybowl. (Oh, and a workout. Damn it.)

In preparation for the latter, we give you the following:

dsc02250 dsc02246 dsc02281
dsc02269 dsc02298 dsc02256

When: Saturday, Jan. 31st, 2009.

Femme What: Black velvet frock trimmed with embroidered ribbon, Free People. White tank by Mimi & Coco. Boots from Lamica, black ribbon headband from Target and skull-and-pearls necklace by Betsey Johnson.

Femme Scent: Vera Wang’s Princess, with notes as follows: Water Lily, Lady Apple, Mandarin Meringue, Golden Apricot Skin, Ripe Pink Guava, Tahitian Flower, Wild Tuberose, Dark Chocolate, Pink Frosting Accord, Precious Amber, Forbidden Woods, Royal Musk Captive, Chiffon Vanilla. I like this for a sweet and girly casual day scent that’s not too cloying or heavy. It’s nice and light, with enough going on to keep it from being boring and really good staying power.

Femme Confession: It appears, quite tragically, that I am not a fan of scotch. ‘Tis a pity! M brought a rather nice bottle home last night, along with heart-shaped chocolates from local chocolatiers Joseph Schmidt and wee tiles of solid milk and dark chocolate from Charles Chocolates! Perhaps it’s just the Islay variety – something in the peatiness, maybe – but not only did the taste not sit well with me, just the whiff off the cork made me feel boozy right away! Anyway, here’s an invitation to come visit us and help M drink this very lovely bottle of Lagavulin 16-Year Scotch:

Tomboy What: RVCA jeans, white guayabera bought in Old San Juan, PR. Mahogany Italian boots that are totally falling apart bought I have no idea where, vintage Yves Saint Laurent sangria tie with sea horsies bought at the bombass flea market.

Tomboy Confession: I woke up craving chilaquiles in green sauce even though I mostly only ever eat the kind in red sauce, so we went to Citron for brunch. They came with pulled pork and a very spicy salsa. I feel great about my breakfast, and am looking forward to the samosa parade later, and sliders tomorrow. The skinny one is not wearing underwear. There is scotch in the liquor cabinet. This sports weekend is going spectacularly!

dsc02042 dsc02065 dsc02074 dsc02091 dsc02096 dsc02055

When: Wednesday, Jan. 28th, 2009.

What: Black cotton yoga pants, racerback cotton tank by Chicks On Speed, both by H&M. Vintage black lace bra. Trainers by New Balance.

Confession: I told y’all bitches I would post my stupid gym outfit one day! I mean, it’s not stupid, it’s just fine I suppose, but it’s my gym outfit, for fuck’s sake! I even scrounged up a weight thingee for y’all. I was waiting for M to get home, very patiently like a very good and patient kitten, so I figured it was just as good a time as any to show you.

Would you like to see our awesome workout chart? Yes, you do. I can tell. M made one for each of us.

Peep the insanity:

dsc019512 dsc01980 dsc01969 dsc02001 dsc02011 dsc02020

When: Monday, Jan. 26th, 2008.

What: Lamica boots, Laundry by Shelli Segal trousers, vintage neck-tie blouse by Georgiou Studio, layered vest by Boom Boom Jeans, long cardigan by Kersh Essentials.

Confession: In numeric form, a grab bag of random -

  1. That lady with the litter in SoCal should give M & I a baby. I took the petite and her friends to an especially infant-laden neighborhood cafe this afternoon, and my ovaries went into overdrive. This wee Asian baby waved at me with his little hand. All snuggled inside of his stroller. He couldn’t have been 10 mos.! Can they do that so soon? I’ve forgotten! I’m all out of practice! OMG!
  2. I took my petite and her friends to the arcade today, where she and I scored 700+ tickets. We cashed ‘em in for candy (cherry pixie sticks!) and a fortune telling machine that’s all WIISSSHHHHHHRRHHHSSSHH! YES, BUT PROCEED WITH CAUTION! WHHHSSSSIIISISSHRRRRSSHHH!
  3. There is a new Bachelor episode tonight and I am so so so impatient for it. DeAnna, where are you!?!?!? HURRY UP!
  4. M & I have to go to the gym again tonight, for Operation Get Buff 2009. I’m scared. Hold me!

dsc01889 dsc01844 dsc01794 dsc01820 dsc01799 dsc01821 dsc01892

When: Saturday, Jan. 24th, 2008.

What: Royal blue ruffled blouse, Persaman NYC. Cigarette pants from Laundry by Shelli Segal. Vintage scarf and fur collar, leather boots by Lamica and silver trench by Lapis.

dsc01925Confession: M & I went to see Milk tonight at the Piedmont Theater. It was really fantastic, so well done and well acted. It didn’t make me cry as hard as I expected! My theory is that since some of what was experienced there on screen haunts present day life for us still, it just…I don’t know, you know?

The Prop. 6 stuff was so hard to sit through; I know it’s not exactly the same at all, but I just felt so much of the same feeling that I felt around Prop. 8; it was like yanking off the scab to something that I was semi-successfully ignoring, like reliving those awful days after Nov. 4 last year when we waited, and dreaded, and seethed and mourned.

But it was truly so, so good. That final scene…I don’t want to ruin it for anyone, but it felt holy. I don’t say holy at all, but that was holy. It really was. So, so beautiful and poignant and wonderful and terrible, all at once. My boyfriend Mick at the SF Chron says though it deserves them the most, it won’t take home any awards at the Oscars, but it really, really ought to. I’m pulling for it!

PS. I painted my nails black. They’re so shiny! Hence the artsy femme fatale photo you see here.

Red, White & Blue: Inaugural FFAF! | January 20, 2009 | Comments (5)

dsc01729 dsc01753 dsc01742
dsc01756 dsc01761 dsc01734

When: Tuesday, Jan. 20th, 2008.

Femme What: James Jeans, ruffled tuxedo blouse by INC, red wool coat, vintage I. Magnin. Thrifted navy belt and red scarf, two-tone Mary Janes by Linea Paolo.

Femme Confession: Was everybody ready for today or what? It was such an incredible, exciting day. I had no idea what to expect. None at all. The petite and I joined a friend of ours very early this morning at the Oakland Coliseum (I refuse to call it the McAfee Coliseum or Oracle Arena or whatever they refer to it as nowadays) for the Special Presidential Inauguration Viewing. I had hoped that folks would come through with their special Oaklandish brotherly love, because it really is a special kind of love, and they did, with abandon! It was wonderful. What a spectacular day! I’m overcome with joy, I really am. And for the first time in my life, I think, I proudly wore red, white and blue. Have we got the most handsome, graceful first family there ever was or what?! I think yes, yes, yes!

Tomboy What: Grey ‘Producer’ pants from Express, white dress shirt from Express, blue striped tie from Penguin, black Kenneth Cole boots, red Old Navy windbreaker jacket, silver tie clip from flea market!

Tomboy Confession: Ow! I am so sore from working out yesterday, it hurt to turn the steering wheel while driving. Operation “Get Buff” is in full effect!
