PS. There was a video, but I cannot for the life of me figure out M’s flip thing. You’ll just have to wait. Also? It’s offensive.

PPS. There is NO confession, because these photos are MORE than enough, kittens.

FEMME CONFESSION: Y’all? We are still packing, still working a lot, still wishing it was already that blessed time when me and my girls and pups are all settled into our new place. This is going to be quick and dirty, but SF PRIDE was so, so amazing and so, so good to us. My sweet Grandma Jones’s delicious secret bourbon slush recipe was a big hit (someone even suggested that it should be the new house drink) and when I woke up in our new place with M on Sunday morning, the birds were singing and I half-thought when I opened my eyes that they’d be right there with ribbons at the ready and there might be bunnies braiding my hair. Heavenly. I cannot wait to be there 100%.

PS. M bought me this lovely lilac parasol at SF Pride. Isn’t it cute?

PPS. There will be no tomboy confession, as M is out of commission and has been since about 10 minutes after the photos below were taken, poor thing. She also adds that she has inexplicable bruises to share, if anyone is interested.

FEMME BONUS ROUND: Y’all get a bonus round. This fancy outfit is a wardrobe change post-Dyke March, to get ready for late night drinking and dancing! As we were boozy, they didn’t come out so hot, but they’ll do in a pinch, I guess.

M’s Birthday! (With Video, ZOMG) | June 25, 2009 | Comments (3)

M's BdayCollages41M's Bday2

CONFESSION: In between all of the packing and the lease signing and the mostly distracted working and pre-Pride preparations, it’s my sweet, handsome loverbird’s birthday! She waited anxiously until midnight on Thursday to tear open her presents and began utilizing them immediately. This morning we slept in and I made chilaquiles con queso fresco for breakfast, and we just relaxed and drank cava cocktails garnished with fresh hibiscus blooms all day long. Earlier this evening, we headed downstairs to throw a tri-tip on the grill with some organic white corn and I made a batch of seasoned steak fries, but we detoured to our building’s lobby to kill some time because they were having a tenant appreciation wine and cheese reception! We grabbed some chardonnay and pretty nibbles and chatted and of course we lost track of time so the tri-tip burned. Hilarious. It was still delicious! Dessert? Sweet peach pie and black tie cupcakes. (Who says you have to choose teams, hm?)

Lucky for all y’all, M’s gift is one that can be shared! I got her the new Flip digital camcorder she’s been lusting after, and she made this little movie in practically no time at all:

PS. Little red flower clip from etsy.com!

Golden Glass3Collages40

CONFESSION: Golden Glass at Fort Mason was incredible. I think I sampled three dozen wines at the very least, and there were none that weren’t delicious, just some more delicious or complex than others. It was an unbelievably beautiful day in San Francisco and I was thrilled to be on the water. M & I had been so busy with open houses on Saturday that I never was able to pick up some velvet ribbon for a trim on my vintage straw boater hat, but I was so committed to the idea of a hat that I decided to wear this one in a radically different way than I have in the past. I decided to set it atop a fancy updo and pin the veil over and under the twist of hair and love how well it turned out!

I was also adventurous in the culinary department; braised pork belly in a clam shell bun from Heaven’s Dog, incredible mortadella from Fra’mani, basil olive oil that changed my life from Stella Cadente, alfajores from Sabores del Sur, freshly zested lime truffles from NeoCocoa and (this is the true triumph of the day, as I usually abhor goat cheese) a fantastic chevre from Harley Farms.

The truly wonderful news, however, is that M & I are signing the lease on our new place on Wednesday night! Noe problem! Mission accomplished! We couldn’t be more thrilled with it. Everything’s happening so fast. We’re moving in 10 days and haven’t got a thing packed!

Collages39In Chinatown Hung OverCollages38

CONFESSION: My feet are shrinking or something. There are two or three pairs of shoes, including these, that have suddenly loosened, or something. Last night M & I took the BART thing to San Francisco, to see Polly Jean Harvey perform with John Parish at The Warfield. It was a wonderful show, save the filthy stinking hippie sitting next to M (we took balcony seats just to avoid that sort of thing – it is, it seems, inescapable – also, do people smoke pot at all shows at The Warfield or was it just this one, even in balcony seats? Not that I take issue with it in general, but these folks were ultra attention whore-y about it).

While it was almost radically different from her solo shows (this tour is for their new album, A Woman A Man Walked By, and only songs from their two albums were performed), the constancy of her voice and onstage presence remain the same. My favorite part of the show was when the lights went completely black, the band started to play Taut and as the lights flickered back on erratically, PJ was revealed as a tiny black puddle center stage, curled into a tight little ball and as her voice undulated with the lyrics so did her body, and as she tore into the near-vulgar line “Jesus save me,” she clawed her way toward the mic stand, rocking back and forth on her knees and then finally standing, barefoot. It was brilliant and so incredibly creepy. She danced around like an undead gypsy ballerina throughout the whole show, and of course the performance for the title track of the new album was just perfect.

Also? I want her hair. What?!

B&B1-1Collages37B&B2

CONFESSION | FEMME: I’ve got a neat little story about this dress. My dear friend, Trixie from Toronto, sent me a bunch of links to vintage dresses on ebay.com that she felt might suit me. I loved how serious and plaid this was (a dark sage green with black checks), the fact that it came with an adorable matching bolero and belt (to be pictured next time). It was only when I first put it on that I realized the fit was perfect! Trixie, it seems, has a real knack for this. Sizing a gal up and sizing a dress up and saying with certainty: This one. You need it. Get it. GET IT! A few things about tonight’s trip to Bourbon & Branch: I may or may not have been allowed behind the bar to mix things up a little. I may or may not have sampled at least a dozen odd cocktails in a two-hour length of time. I may or may not be in love! You’ll see when I post my favorites, because you will 100% absolutely want to try them.

CONFESSION | TOMBOY: I hate SF so much right now! $2K for an apartment with a bathroom smaller than our current liquor cabinet! WTF? The fog is making everyone demented in the city. 15-minute open houses! Yes, let me just drop everything, schlep during the busiest possible traffic hours to come see your miniature toilet! Fucking Polly Pocket couldn’t live there! Gah! (You do realize that B is just going to exploit this for her own gain, right? – SBJ)
