I am so excited about my Halloween costume.
I am so excited about my Halloween costume.
I am so excited about my Halloween costume.

I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT MY HALLOWEEN COSTUME.

So excited that I don’t care if I was 100% right and my poor wookie pumpkin is already all shrivel-y and deflated like a dead, decaying wookie. (Plus, we’re going to a pumpkin-carving party tomorrow. Bygones.) I know it’s really mean of me to get all SKWEE about my epic costume and not tell y’all, but you’ll see soon enough.

Let’s change the subject, shall we? Here, look at my shiny hair. Let’s all just calm down a minute.

I threw this outfit on in a hurry this morning. I realized that I’ve packed all of my heels aready save two pairs of high-heeled boots – both brown. Femme fail! I love that it’s all serious grays and a plaid Brooks Bros. skirt, paired with some stompy boots. Here are the details:

Shirt: RVCA
Cardigan & Belt: H&M
Skirt: Brooks Brothers
Tights & Boots: Target
Pearls: Vintage

Right now at the FFAF household, here’s the news:

  • The San Francisco Giants have indeed toasted Texas. Texas toast! So good, especially soaked with the big fat crocodile tears of the poor, poor Rangers. This town is going wacko. Also? We smoke weed here, apparently. Who knew?
  • The registration packet for the petite’s new school is no thinner than 1.5″ thick (in triplicate) and includes a swatch of fabric so that parents can readily avoid the horrible mistake of purchasing uniforms in the WRONG SHADE OF KHAKI . I don’t know about you, but I’m sure relieved. (We owe her big time. Like Uggs big, and y’all know I fucking HATE Uggs.)
  • The “big packing weekend” is upon us. It’s do-or-die time. We’re also selling a TON of furniture this weekend. Whee!
  • We’re so sad about Mondo not winning Project Runway. What do you think? Gretchen’s such a bloody hag that it makes it hard to appreciate her clothes, which seem to me a meek, hipster-y acquiescence to the superiority that are Chloe’s Fall collections, but what do I know?

Night + Day | April 29, 2010 | Comments (7)

Hey! Remember the pics from my marching band meets pin-up post the other day? You’ll recognize most of it in this here outfit, where I swapped the vest and shorts out for a natty little Brooks Brothers pencil skirt to accommodate a wardrobe change from day to night, and ended up with a completely different look and feel.

This is more Blair Waldorf, less camp, though you’ll notice I couldn’t resist updating the bow headband with a red rhinestone pin shaped like a perfect red pout! The gays at The Apartment helped me pick it out. They are so sweet and awesome there. M & I had promised to meet some friends for a glass or two of peachy white sangria at this party later that same evening, and the wind had picked up as dusk fell, so I needed something a bit more substantial than a tiny pair of shorts!

Keep your eyes peeled for a special post over at Femme Fairy Godmother – a wee birdie mentioned that there’s a surprise coming in the next day or two!

Peplums & Petticoats! | December 21, 2009 | Comments (6)

Sher's Birthday1Collages6-1

CONFESSION: I had a very full, very festive weekend. The last before Christmas! On Friday night, the tomboy and I bundled up (a bit too much – it was wonderfully pleasant out!) and headed downtown with the petite to follow the longtime tradition of peeking in at the puppies and kittens up for adoption, adorably displayed in Macy’s whimsical holiday window displays. (M threatened to physically remove me if I didn’t stop tearing up! I can’t help it! One little creamsicle kitten was hugging herself to sleep!) It was so much fun! We came home and had Mexican hot chocolate and cookies fresh out of the oven, and watched Valentino: The Last Emperor (which really made me cry).

We celebrated my best friend’s birthday at a lovely French bistro on Saturday night (that’s where these fancy photos are from – this H&M top is so FUN with a built-in petticoat underneath the peplum, but I pinned the flower to the waist for a little extra something) – I had a wonderful pear cocktail and ordered the Coq au Vin, which was fantastic. The BFF was thrilled to bits with everything and we laughed heartily through the entire dinner. All were loathe to end the night so soon!

On Sunday, we celebrated my Grandmother’s 90th birthday. Festivities began promptly at a 10AM mass and didn’t stop until we tore ourselves away from her charming stories and copious amounts of her favorite brandy, in order to make it to a dinner on time at Will Blog For Food’s house. She roasted her very first chicken for us, paired with a gorgeous salad with persimmons and endives, a toasty loaf of bread and roasted vegetables (which became quite caramelized and which M could not get enough of). A happy and lovely evening to complete a very busy weekend!

After catching up with my beauty sleep this morning, I have to tidy up the flat, queue up the baking parade, wrap gifts and take care of those inevitable last-minute errands the holidays bring. I can’t wait until Christmas Eve and I hope y’all are ready for whatever wonderful plans await you! XOXO!

Some fancy photos of the tomboy and I, for fun:

2009-11-12 1

CONFESSION: Gah! Too busy, kittens, for a proper confession! So much excitement and busyness. Not only does FFAF have an exciting new partnership with a delicious new partner, I am party-planning for work and up to my ears in laundry. The latter is not so exciting, unless you consider that it contains FIVE NEW DRESSES I got earlier this week whilst thrifting, all for between $3-$8 apiece, all fabulous. Two remind me of French 1940s dresses, one is a ruffled black velvet number handmade of AWESOME, the Mad Men-esque sheath dress I keep teasing y’all about and one other that I can’t quite remember…hm. Basically, I’m assuring you that I’ll make up for this wan week very shortly.

Enjoy this entry and my soothing hallway in meantime, and have a fantastic weekend!

PS. Oh, and this song, which I am currently 84,000% obsessed with (as some of you may have noticed):

PPS. I got the name of this subject from a random book title generator, because I couldn’t think of one. Cheeky!

Mr. Conor Bennett! | August 14, 2009 | Comments (7)

Collages9Collages10

CONFESSION: Y’all missed Conor, and thus I am delivering said Conor on this gorgeous Friday. You’re welcome. This week has been crazy busy! M started playing with an awesome new softball team, my dear friend is visiting from NY and we’ve visited Golden Gate Park, Baker Beach, a fancy tea shoppe in outer Richmond, have trekked the Mission and tonight we’ll hop onto a double-decker bus at twilight (as in time of day, not the unfortunate vampire series) to take a silly, breezy, sit-down tour of SF.

Collages39In Chinatown Hung OverCollages38

CONFESSION: My feet are shrinking or something. There are two or three pairs of shoes, including these, that have suddenly loosened, or something. Last night M & I took the BART thing to San Francisco, to see Polly Jean Harvey perform with John Parish at The Warfield. It was a wonderful show, save the filthy stinking hippie sitting next to M (we took balcony seats just to avoid that sort of thing – it is, it seems, inescapable – also, do people smoke pot at all shows at The Warfield or was it just this one, even in balcony seats? Not that I take issue with it in general, but these folks were ultra attention whore-y about it).

While it was almost radically different from her solo shows (this tour is for their new album, A Woman A Man Walked By, and only songs from their two albums were performed), the constancy of her voice and onstage presence remain the same. My favorite part of the show was when the lights went completely black, the band started to play Taut and as the lights flickered back on erratically, PJ was revealed as a tiny black puddle center stage, curled into a tight little ball and as her voice undulated with the lyrics so did her body, and as she tore into the near-vulgar line “Jesus save me,” she clawed her way toward the mic stand, rocking back and forth on her knees and then finally standing, barefoot. It was brilliant and so incredibly creepy. She danced around like an undead gypsy ballerina throughout the whole show, and of course the performance for the title track of the new album was just perfect.

Also? I want her hair. What?!

Nibbles. | April 17, 2009 | Comments (6)

p14302151Confession: Y’all? These are fancy new pictures from my fancy new camera! Except they aren’t that fancy yet, because I am only on page 30-something in the manual, which is very…well, let’s just say that I think I’m supposed to create a custom menu for every possible mode combination and that is HARD.

I’m still figuring out what the hell is what! Even with the automatic, point-and-shoot settings, I hope you can tell the difference! I’ll get better real soon, I swan. One last thing? Good LORD it’s gonna take some getting used to that this camera is so sharp it picks up: stray dog hairs, dust, imperfections on my fussy ass skin (I have a threading appt. tomorrow, shut up!), etc. See how crispy the non-reflection stuff is compared to the reflection? MAYBE M SHOULD CLEAN HER SIDE OF THE MIRROR, GUYS.

The second order of business for today (and I know it’s lovely all across the whole country today, but this post is for nibbles over the weekend, hence the title) is to say YEEHAW, M & I got featured on yesterday’s Queer Eye Candy. Check us out here.

Queer Eye Candy is a neat little blog that gives you fresh queer meat to nom on every day, and who can say no to that?

PS. I ran into the bathroom in a feisty huff after reading M’s comment about the bathroom sink(s), to prove my point via photo. Well, after taking a good, long look at the state of things, two things are clear:

1. There are no winners here.
2. Please, God, if you love me at ALL you won’t make me move into a 1-bathroom come June. Please.
3. Honestly? Honestly, three bathrooms would be best for all parties involved. This prevents me from scarring someone with a hot roller.
