CONFESSION: I suspect that this could be the very first time I’ve added actual COLOR to this dress. How foolish! Now I can’t wait to pair it with a yellow belt or a bright red coat. I had a stroke of genius and took this cameo ring – which is much too big for my skinny little fingers and which belongs to M (it’s too big for her, too – little know fact: our fingers are the same size, give or take half a size…that sounds pervy, I guess, for a lesbian blog, but I meant it in terms of pretty little baubles) – and just looped the scarf ends through twice to secure it snugly. Now when I’m thrifting or antique shopping and find a ring I’ve fallen in love with but am too tiny for, I’ll buy it anyway, because I really love this look.

Two nice things from today:

  1. After a work meeting and some errands, I popped into Noe Valley and treated myself to a nice Italian lunch. I woke up in a bit of a funk this morning, and it went away almost instantly over a giant plate of creamy fettucine alfredo, garlic bread, a single glass of champagne and a good book.
  2. Success regarding workout clothing at Nordstrom Rack today: A cozy new Reebok track suit thingee in a nice, rich shade of charcoal that didn’t break my bank (nothing sparkly or vulgar scrawled across the ass! nothing so absurdly tight that panty lines would show even if I went without panties at all! nothing in a shitty, fug print!) and three baby t-shirts and a tank top for appx. $6 each! HAWT. I will admit, however, to buying dark grey eyeliner. For all my strength, a gleaming ribbon of weakness.

Before I say good night, thanks to all the folks who offered words of wisdom regarding workout clothes here or elsewhere! Y’all are rad. XO!

Trick Or Treat! | October 30, 2009 | Comments (2)

2009-10-30

Twas the night before Halloween, when all through the house, not a tomboy was stirring, no femme could be roused…

We’re all snuggled up on the couch watching The Nightmare Before Christmas with the pups, who are extra ridiculous this evening. Earlier tonight, we had sundry appetizers for dinner and at long last caught the creme brulee guy, with his cart all set up at a nearby art gallery we happen to love. We each got a special flavor: Ritual Coffee (top left), S’mores (with the marshmallows) and Frosted Flakes (at the bottom). They were all so, so delicious. It’s a crispy October night here in San Francisco, so I wore one of my vintage fur stoles.

The other two pics are just for fun – last night I made a teeny tiny top hat for the petite’s magician costume, which I attached to a frou frou, feathered black headband I already had. (She also borrowed my cowboy boots, belt and cropped tux jacket with her own leggings, worn over M’s ruffled tuxedo shirt and bowtie. The real finishing touch were a pair of vintage white gloves I have and this DIY magic wand (a twiggy black chopstick from Cost Plus with a bit of white ribbon attached to the top). This updo (those antlers are just ironically placed, or something) was fancy and awesome but a happy accident. I just wanted my hair out of my face and kept sticking pins in it until it was!

Now tell me all about your awesome Halloween plans! I want to hear the juicy details about your costumes!

I still recall the thrill. | January 3, 2009 | Comments (7)

When: Saturday, Jan. 3rd, 2008.

dsc096131 dsc096241 dsc096172

Tomboy What: RVCA jeans (x-mas gift!), black t-shirt from the Gap, gray wool coat from Zara for Men, with custom-made, DIY champagne bottle cap buttons. Black belt-with-holes from H&M, sunglasses by Spy Optic bought in Old San Juan (sniff) and black Kenneth Cole boots.

Tomboy Scent: That dandy one Skinny suggested I try. It smells like guys who wear bad rayon shirts, drive shitty cars and secretly spy on their girlfriends by following them to and from work. It smells like a clingy, insecure person. Repulsive.

Tomboy Confession: I really do slather almost all of my food in lime or lemon juice, as mentioned in the previous post (in the comments, natch - FFAF). We had a senior citizen’s dinner at 4pm tonight at Regalito. I ordered the Regalito chicken and guess what? It already comes slathered in lime!! I feel supported in my madness.

Femme What: Black dress by Laundry by Shelli Segal, cotton cardigan in a nice oatmeal color by Kersh Essentials, peacock tights from modcloth.com. Black leather bag from Betsey Johnson, yellow rainbow scarf from Peru by way of a surf ‘n skate shop in Bodega Bay and brown leather and suede lace-up peep-toe oxfords by Elie Tahari.

Femme Confession: Despite a bit of galivanting in SF today, I’m still fighting the last wee traces of a cold off. A cough here, sniffle there…the lingering just obnoxious enough to keep me from feeling 100% again. It was such a crispy, clear and beautiful day. We made a very pleasant trip to Mr. & Madame S in SOMA, followed by a ruined attempt to eat at The Slanted Door in the Ferry Building (only their lounge was open) but ended up having a delicious meal at Regalito, followed by a drink (I tried a Jameson & ginger for the first time – amazing!) and several awesome rounds of Spot The Difference Erotic Babes with M at The Lex, SF’s only 24-7 lesbian bar.

I HAD NO IDEA THAT YOU COULD PLAY SPOT THE DIFFERENCE ONLINE, ZOMFG & PLS. TO EXCUSE ME:

Jenner-by-the-Sea, Part I | July 2, 2008 | Comments (0)

When: Saturday, June 28th, 2008.

What: Black jersey skirt by local designer Sylvie & Mado (Mill Valley). That’s all.

Confessions: When M & I arrived at our two-story cottage in foggy Jenner, which has a grand population of 107 perched on the Pacific north of Bodega Bay, it was warmer than expected. I needed something to lounge around in before the champs was chilled enough to take into the hot tub, so I took the wrap ties for the skirt and tied them up to make this a halter dress/cover-up. My Calvin Klein bandeau one-piece is under there! Revolutionary, I know.
