CONFESSION: Fall arrived in head-to-toe drag queen regalia in San Francisco in the wee hours of the morning yesterday, loud and brassy and thunderous and with all the sky’s gaudy sequins refracting through myriad bedroom windows. It was fan-fucking-tastic. Really splendid. Of course, M & I slept through most of it, or shall I say we experienced it from the comfort of our bed, but storms like that are really rare here, so I loved it. M said that it sounded a lot like an earthquake, and she kept waiting for the shaking to start! The rain that came was far less impressive, in fact, that part was more like walking around the Mission drenched in a vat of the appropriate CB I Hate Perfume scent. Lovely. Hope y’all had lovely weekends.

Forgive a femme. | July 31, 2009 | Comments (6)

CONFESSION: It’s been too long! Two weeks and then some too long, to be specific. You know what happened? The fog rolled in, bringing with it a traditionally chilly SF summer, sending my preexisting  nesting state into a disoriented cocoon of warmth and quiet and respite. (Translation: I wore a lot of jeans and hoodies. I spent a lot of time searching for the perfect down comforter – Calvin Klein, for the record – to stop the chattering of my teeth in bed at night and so that we snuggle each other out of free will like we used to, instead of clinging together desperately just for warmth. I fussed with all of the bottles and things at my new vanity and begged the Gods for motivation to put my curlers in. When no motivation came, I watched Season 2 of Grey’s Anatomy.) I hope y’all forgive me and that we can all just MOVE ON from this terrible, awful stagnation.

So, the vanity! Isn’t it darling? I really am in love it. It brings me tremendous joy and pride to sit on my little padded bench, with everything so easy to get to, and with it so prettily displayed, it’s a highly effective way to stop wanting to buy every last shiny new cosmetic I see out and about. (This principle is the same reason I had the beast and have the new mini-beast for my shoes and bags.) Plus, it’s very fancy. This is a little sneak peek at my side of the bedroom, but M & I are still working on it, so you’ll see more very soon.

I’ll also be sharing the kitchen and dining next, followed by the living and sun rooms. We are so, so close to being done and able to just be in our space and enjoy it without that little nudge to tinker with things until they are just so. It’s so wonderful when life is just so, and I’m closer than ever.

Fill me in on your goings-on in the comments! What have I missed!?

Bundle me up. | December 13, 2008 | Comments (10)

dsc07730 dsc07755 dsc07750 dsc07739 dsc07767 dsc07735

When: Sat., December 13th, 2008.

What: Brown turtleneck by Nine West, royal blue cropped linen jacket by Persaman NYC, cider corduroy pants from Victoria’s Secret. Boots by Donald J. Pliner and trench coat by Do & Be. Hat from The Hat Guys in downtown Oakland.

Scent: Burberry London. Jesus Christ, who makes their perfume? They need a good slap. This went on harshly and dried down to something sweet and a notch of intensity away from being…offensive, almost. It’s just nothing special, and nothing good, even. it barely lasted 3-4 hrs.! I wonder if this is what laziness smells like? The notes: Clementine, Honeysuckle, English Garden Rose, Tiare Flower, Jasmine, Peony, Veil of Musks, Indian Sandalwood, Patchouli.

Also? I really hope to review something tomorrow that I actually enjoy.

Confession: We got our Christmas tree tonight! It’s about the same height as the petite and we love it. We get Delancey Street trees because it’s good and they are all sustainably farmed / organic, what have you. After dinner, we’ll get the lights on and I’ll make a fresh batch of shortbread and M will make some homemade Mexican hot chocolate and we’ll all decorate the tree while carols play merrily in the background! It’s never too late for some serious (Charlie Brown) Christmas spirit!

Grapes & gratitude. | November 30, 2008 | Comments (0)

dsc06491 dsc06725 dsc06608-1 dsc06696 dsc06468

When: Thanksgiving Day, 2008.

Femme What: Sweater dress by Dolce, green belted trench by Do & Be, brown chevron tights from Old Navy. Skinny brown belt by Elie Tahari, olive green knit socks by some fancy Italians (I can’t remember the brand, sob) and Donald J. Pliner boots. For the trek to the actual river, I wore my awesome “hiking” boots from El Mexico. They are the only boots, aside from my Noconas, that haven’t got a 4″ min. heel!

Femme Scent: Serge Lutens Chêne, of course.

Femme Confession: I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. My top three thanks, for the record: My precious girls. My resilient health, while it lasts. The dearest, most clever, loyal and affectionate friends a girl could wish for.

dsc06507 dsc06661 dsc065211 dsc06546

Tomboy What: Awesome bear sweater from Express, shirt from Banana Republic (with vintage fleur-de-lys cuff links – a bit much, I KNOW), brown label jeans from Lounge, and brown boots from Harley-Davidson.

Tomboy Confession: I started the day with a completely different outfit: black slacks, a black blazer and the same green shirt (silver and black griffin cuff links from Ben Sherman instead of gold fleur-de-lys ones) and black boots. I only changed because my black boots are too faggy, they provide absolutely no traction! Since the trek down to the river is the absolute highlight of my dogs’ lives, I changed into something more “outdoorsy.”

Second Tomboy Confession: I ate about 100 grapes from the vines to and from the river!

Mondays suck, but your outfit doesn't have to. | July 21, 2008 | Comments (0)

When: Monday, July 21st, 2008.

What: Skinny black cigarette pants by Guess Jeans, striped sheer blouse with tie-neck by Do & Be from modcloth.com, belt by Polo Ralph Lauren, shoes and bag are both vintage. I love the little black and white leather dashes on the red shoes and the faux silver snakeskin on the bag’s geometrical detail; they’re so unapologetically 80s! I can’t remember where I got the pretty hair combs, but I do know that my hair is SO FUCKING THICK that I had to secure them over Conair Locking Bobby Pins, which I bought in bulk in Knoxville, TN, because I was afraid I’d never see them again, ever.

Confession: In reality, this outfit had a pair of black, wide-leg trousers with my red Linea Paolo flats instead of the va-va-voom hotness you see here, but fuck all that noise. This is something I’d wear to go see little indie art galleries or for a game of miniature golf!
