This outfit was so much fun. My only complaint would be that when sleeves are rolled up in this way, it’s v. difficult to throw a coat or jacket over them. They get bulky and it’s uncomfortable, but unbuttoning and unrolling them (and then rolling and buttoning right back up, depending on the weather’s/body heat’s fickle whims) is obnoxious. FIRST WORLD PROBS, YO.

Bottoms-up!

Boots: Dolce Vita for Target, with socks and leggings
Skirt: Esprit
Shirt: Converse for Target
Scarf: Modcloth
Purse, Beaded Necklace: Vintage

Guess what, kittens?! M & I have been happily married for two years today! Isn’t that something?!

We celebrated by going to our fencing class after work (side note: fencing is ultra sweaty), getting some post-fencing grub from El Buen Sabor, cracking open a nice, cold bottle of bubbly and collapsing into an exhausted pile together on the couch. The fanciness happens on Friday, when we’ll go on a proper celebratory date! I can’t wait. My black taffeta dress and I are ready.

Welcome to SF’s best-loved lesbian bar, The Lexington. Fantastical tumblr/blog Lesbians In SF celebrated the opening of their photo show at the Lex last night, so we stopped by to take a peek, congratulate the lovely duo on all their hard work and success, and enjoy a drink (or two). I got a lot more than I bargained for! Brownies, meeting wonderful readers of FFAF, and finally getting to mingle with Jenna Riot and her charming beau. There were at least two sweet puppies to love on, too.

You can have a look-see yourself at the gorgeousness adorning the red walls here, but if you’re local I recommend stopping by to take them in IRL!

Some tomboy hotness. You might remember the one next to M from here. Basically, we stole her from the East Coast and now we affectionately harass one another constantly. How nice!

(And no, B, we will NOT give her back.)

Burn down the garden. | May 1, 2010 | Comments (5)

After seeing the DKNY Spring 2010 campaign in the April Vogue I decided that I, too, could just go totally apeshit with every floral I could find in my closet. What do you think? Am I nuts? It’s a little nuts. That’s OK. It was one of those experiments that could possibly benefit from a little fine-tuning, but where’s the fun in that? It’s far more exhilarating to step outside and boldly go where perhaps only upholstery has gone before. I did find it perplexing that I just happen to have similarly colored florals on black in scarf, skirt and little jacket formats, and of course these suede pumps by Franco Sarto were all, “TODAY IS MY DAY, BITCHES! ME!”

The real star of this post is my new fancy ribboned pony pin from Little Otsu (a door or two down from the site of the hotly debated new Banksy in the Mission). It’s delightful! (The pony, I mean. I’m allergic to that much hype, re: Banksy.)

Tiergarten | January 9, 2010 | Comments (4)

I love this song by Rufus Wainwright. It’s beautiful. It takes a few listens to full bloom, so to speak. My favorite line is I have suffered shipwreck against your dark brown eyes. So gorgeous. So true.

Here at the homestead we are eagerly awaiting a lovely guest, who arrives today and stays with us for a few days. Of course, I decided it would be a good time to clean my room (my side of the room, rather) and will somebody please explain to me why I can’t get through a single square foot without discovering 84,000 abandoned projects?

Exhibit A: At last I found my seam ripper and attacked a few tentative repurposing prospects that had accumulated into a dusty pile in the corner (all but one went straight into the trash). In addition to the abandoned projects, there’s a kind of freaky domino effect that overtakes me and I’ll also decide it’s a fine time to begin a new project.

Exhibit B: For instance, the drill battery has been charging because WHERE WILL I HANG ALL OF MY FUR STOLES? (the surface of the dresser cannot be properly cleared until there is a place to put them, obviously). I remembered the awesome panel of hooks that M brought home from Target months ago and thought, if I just move my scarves from where they are hanging (the awesome silver antler hooks) to the new one (which is why the drill is charging), I can relocate my fur stoles and collars to the old one. Genius! It’s perfect! It’s ridiculous. I am ridiculous, but I suppose I get brownie points for enthusiasm and innovation.

Exhibit C: On the upside, I somehow posted and sold three pieces of furniture doing nothing but taking up room and collecting dust on Craigslist in under four hours. That’s kind of a record. Good riddance to stuff I don’t need and have no use for!

On that note, I must return to the above-mentioned tasks. It’s exciting! I’m still basking in the glow of the co-tomboy post from yesterday, though. So many new readers! So much love via tweets! Dreamy, dreamy, dreamy.

Bye-bye, Mr. November | November 30, 2009 | Comments (3)

CONFESSION: My mama’s vintage scarf again. I love it anew. I know y’all have seen this same GD LBD 84,000 times before, but not this epic wool pea coat from DKNY, all sharp and boxy. I like it a lot paired with the shoes. We had to dress up for a tea dance with friends last Saturday and I just wanted to be warm and comfortable without that meaning jeans, etc. I hope y’all are making do on the Monday back after a long and lovely holiday weekend: I’m happy to report that I scored 5 tops and 2 skirts for…let’s see, appx. $15 at the thrift store. Best picks are a Kensie sweater in a perfect shade of asparagus green ($2.50), a NWT drape-y, vintage tank in cobalt blue lamé ($1.50) and a floral print corduroy Esprit miniskirt ($4). It will be tempting to wear them all at once!
