CONFESSION: Specifically, my tomboy. Is there anything hotter than a tomboy with a book? I think not. You lucky readers get a healthy dose of tomboy eye candy AND my must-have modcloth.com dresses of the moment, just for fun.

On Saturday, M & I were up and out the door by 10AM to head to Enoteca 100, an Italian wine tasting event with delicious nibbles, on a spectacularly lovely Fall day. There was so much goodness to sip, beautiful flower arrangements at every turn, super cute puppies and heavenly bites like ravioli stuffed with beef, pork and rabbit or juicy wild boar spread over crostini drizzled with olive oil, and so so so many wondrous cheeses, too. We tried to pace ourselves by starting with Prosecco, then to whites and reds, but after sampling about three dozen bottles, we had to call it a day!

PS. My leggings are DKNY and the lacy sweater is by Hazel, from Lounge in NYC.

When: Saturday, Jan. 31st, 2009.

Femme What: Black velvet frock trimmed with embroidered ribbon, Free People. White tank by Mimi & Coco. Boots from Lamica, black ribbon headband from Target and skull-and-pearls necklace by Betsey Johnson.

Femme Scent: Vera Wang’s Princess, with notes as follows: Water Lily, Lady Apple, Mandarin Meringue, Golden Apricot Skin, Ripe Pink Guava, Tahitian Flower, Wild Tuberose, Dark Chocolate, Pink Frosting Accord, Precious Amber, Forbidden Woods, Royal Musk Captive, Chiffon Vanilla. I like this for a sweet and girly casual day scent that’s not too cloying or heavy. It’s nice and light, with enough going on to keep it from being boring and really good staying power.

Femme Confession: It appears, quite tragically, that I am not a fan of scotch. ‘Tis a pity! M brought a rather nice bottle home last night, along with heart-shaped chocolates from local chocolatiers Joseph Schmidt and wee tiles of solid milk and dark chocolate from Charles Chocolates! Perhaps it’s just the Islay variety – something in the peatiness, maybe – but not only did the taste not sit well with me, just the whiff off the cork made me feel boozy right away! Anyway, here’s an invitation to come visit us and help M drink this very lovely bottle of Lagavulin 16-Year Scotch:

Tomboy What: RVCA jeans, white guayabera bought in Old San Juan, PR. Mahogany Italian boots that are totally falling apart bought I have no idea where, vintage Yves Saint Laurent sangria tie with sea horsies bought at the bombass flea market.

Tomboy Confession: I woke up craving chilaquiles in green sauce even though I mostly only ever eat the kind in red sauce, so we went to Citron for brunch. They came with pulled pork and a very spicy salsa. I feel great about my breakfast, and am looking forward to the samosa parade later, and sliders tomorrow. The skinny one is not wearing underwear. There is scotch in the liquor cabinet. This sports weekend is going spectacularly!

When: Friday, Nov. 21st, 2008.

What: Velvet “Black Fairy” dress with ribbon trim and embroidery by Free People, white cotton blouse with cascading black satin bows and black bow headband by H&M, peacock tights from modcloth.com. Onyx pendant, vintage. Charles David ‘Butane’ boots.

Scent: Serge Lutens ChêneMost beautiful and exquisite scent, I love you I love you I love you, and I cannot possibly live without you. I love this so much that I spent an ungodly amount earlier this year to buy the exclusive Paris bell jar, pictured below. (The bell jars can only be purchased in Paris or strictly shipped within Europe from the Paris boutique, as I understand it. The exports, including the export exclusives, are in rectangular bottles.) The notes include cedar crystals, wood sap, black thyme, immortelle, beeswax, silver birch, rum absolute and tonka bean.

M says that it smells like the rebirth of a forest after it’s been burned down. I suppose one of the reasons that I am so fond of it – aside from the fact that it is perfectly executed – is that it reminds me of walking through Dry Creek’s vineyards on Thanksgivings at the Russian River. When the air is cold and still and the sound of the river is close by, recently emboldened with late Fall rain, coursing through its bends and curves between ravines and wide panels of gray rock. The towering trees covered with moss, the oaks and cedars and lizards scurrying underfoot, and smoke from fires burning in happily filled homes on nearby acres all mixing into this calm and perfect cocktail of scent in my memory.

Chêne captures all of that. It captures those most happy and content of days that have endured through all twenty-eight years of my life. Since I am in so many ways an orphan, I can climb into Chêne like it is “home.” The staying power is amazing and requires a light hand. I’m getting up the nerve to layer it with some of my florals, too. I disagree with the majority who think this isn’t a very wearable scent, or that it leans toward the masculine side.

Confession: So, my fancy outfit! Last night there was a birthday party for a dear friend of mine at Metro, a gay bar in the Castro. It turns out the old Metro is now the Lookout, and the new Metro is an unmarked, pleasant hole-in-the-wall further down on Market St. So, gift in hand, I trudged past Cafe du Nord (a wonderfully dirty-luxe and intimate place to see a show) and the Lucky 13 and finally found it. I had a good time and got to catch up with folks I haven’t seen in a long while. I also had a fascinating conversation with a 40-something bisexual male (currently with an adorable boyfriend) and some gays as a sort of follow-up to BCP’s Sugar Walls conversation on bisexual women in the lesbian community. More on that later! I’m getting back into bed with my loverbird…
