Burn down the garden. | May 1, 2010 | Comments (5)

After seeing the DKNY Spring 2010 campaign in the April Vogue I decided that I, too, could just go totally apeshit with every floral I could find in my closet. What do you think? Am I nuts? It’s a little nuts. That’s OK. It was one of those experiments that could possibly benefit from a little fine-tuning, but where’s the fun in that? It’s far more exhilarating to step outside and boldly go where perhaps only upholstery has gone before. I did find it perplexing that I just happen to have similarly colored florals on black in scarf, skirt and little jacket formats, and of course these suede pumps by Franco Sarto were all, “TODAY IS MY DAY, BITCHES! ME!”

The real star of this post is my new fancy ribboned pony pin from Little Otsu (a door or two down from the site of the hotly debated new Banksy in the Mission). It’s delightful! (The pony, I mean. I’m allergic to that much hype, re: Banksy.)

Confession: DOUBLE WHAMMY! Because I’ve neglected y’all and I am terribly sorry. I’ve purchased a sewing machine, resumed my French lessons, started Bollywood dancing and helped a friend throw an amazing benefit for her AIDS Lifecycle 8 Ride over the weekend. Phew! I hope you enjoy the sassy new belt from modcloth.com and the exclusive softball game pics with a peek of the tomboy! I swear I swear I swear I’m not neglecting the sniffs section of the blog – I’ve got plenty, I’ve just been lazy in that dept. – and will try to post a few new ones this week. End. Weekend! Soon. Really. Have I told you lately that I love you? Well, I do. XO.

For the love of all that sparkles. | September 9, 2008 | Comments (0)

When: Tuesday, September 9th, 2008.

What: Black ruffled dot blouse from Target. Black and white striped silk skirt by MaxStudio. Floral print scarf by Lulu Guinness. Sheer yellow belt, vintage. Hot pink pumps by Chinese Laundry and oversized teal bracelet from H&M.

Confession: Sometimes the outfits you toss on in a crusty-eyed fog after sleeping in are the best ones. At lunch today I discovered very sad news! My favorite jewelry store is moving to an undetermined location soon. I wandered in there whilst waiting for my Singaporean takeout next door, and they explained to me that the lease is up and they’re not sure where they’ll go next. At least they’re not closing!

She noticed my new ring and started to fuss over it – the first stranger to do so since it was given to me! – then the other lady came in who works there and suddenly these three older ladies were crowded around me making a big to-do over it all, including the eldest (also a loyal customer of the store, it seemed – we’re both known on a first-name basis). It was really sweet and adorable, and not a single one of them batted an eye when it became apparent that I’m an engaged lesbian. That was really nice.

Then the oldest woman said to me, “I was admiring your outfit when I got out of my car. You just sauntered on by and Ooh! I thought to myself I would have worn an outfit just like that when I was her age!” and as she was saying this she was kind of gesturing at the bits she liked, like the scarf and the skirt, with a flourish, as if to demonstrate that she, too, was once a sprightly young thing all flushed with love! It was an incredibly cute and sincere little exchange.
