CONFESSION: Hurrah, hurrah for holiday weekends! Guess what?! WE ARE GOING TO DO SWEET AND BLISSFUL ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Having been going relatively non-stop since we moved in, I cannot even begin to express how delighted I am that we’re going to lounge about in our pajamas well after noon, take long, shuffling strolls through the park like old people, giggle through messy, langorous brunches and dig our hands deep into the dirt of our wee urban garden. It’s going to be wonderful. We’re starting by heading to one of our favorite places in the Mission for lunch, The Liberties, because their happy hour is to die for and they are friendly.

I-580 Overpass. | September 3, 2009 | Comments (5)

GiraffeGiraffe1Giraffe2

CONFESSION: There’s a mural painted beneath the I-580 overpass in Oakland, at or near Harrison & West Grand, I can’t remember exactly, with these long-necked giraffes that I’ve driven past hundreds and hundreds of times. It’s subtle, the design and the giraffes themselves, if you can believe it. They kind of belong there in a way that’s absurd and familiar and should never be changed.

One very dismal Friday afternoon. | May 1, 2009 | Comments (8)

Confession:
I finally, finally, FINALLY took three bags of my closet’s ex-contents to Crossroads this afternoon, a buy-sell-trade with stores all over the country and several in the Bay Area. M was threatening to throw them out and she meant business, but so did I! In addition to walking out of there with a fistful of cash, I traded my castaways for these like-new Marc by Marc Jacobs flats, new dark blue denim shorts with white pinstripes, a cheery new yellow summer top, a new BCBG Max Azria wrap dress in a gorgeous blue print and a pair of very cheeky red canvas peep-toe heels – so Varga girl! I had forgotten all about the satisfying rush one gets when acquiring awesome new clothes “for free!” I still have some great stuff that they turned down (Uniqlo, a pristine Ann Taylor suit, misc. vintage) that I might put up on ebay or just donate. Do y’all ever do the buy-sell-trade, or is it too harrowing / inconvenient / obnoxious?

PS. You’re not nuts – I changed my shoes. The Charles David boots are what I’m kicking high in the B&W! I loved the neon yellow in the belt with the hot pink of the flats too much!

Scent: Christian Dior Diorling power walks out of the decant with a toss of big 80s hair, shoulder pads and a mad, red mouth. It smells like something from my childhood, and being a child of the 80s I suppose this makes sense. In a way it’s very much your staple “perfume” smell. A hint of floral over a stern chypre, just a tinge of something powdery. The leather is elusive at first, but starts to show itself in the dry down. In reality, Diorling was born in 1963, and I’m not 100% sure that this is the original, but I suspect it’s the watered down, pansy reissue. M was taken aback by the top notes, saying it reminded her of the smell of whatever it is that Pine Sol tries to cover up with the scent of pine – not the pine itself. I’m unimpressed, overall and looking forward to a write-up over the weekend of something divine!

Lazy Day | July 19, 2008 | Comments (0)

When: Saturday, July 19th, 2008.

What: Polka dot woven sandals by Kensie (formerly Kenzie), James Cured by Seun jeans, lace-trimmed top by FANG, pretty blue Dentelle bra by Elle Macpherson and little burnt orange clutch by Lela Rose for Payless. Yes, Payless, bitches.

Confession: We were going to MOMA today to see the Frida Kahlo exhibition, but I’ve punted it to next weekend because it’s just been a very lazy, sleepy, sexy morning in bed. At 2PM I was still in my robe drinking coffee while M made pastries (from scratch!) for “breakfast”! We did leave the house to take my petite to get her hair cut at M’s salon in Rockridge, so I got dressed. This top is nothing special at all, but I love the colors in all the leaves and flowers, so muted and soft, and it has a low-cut-yet-demure neckline, which is how it earned the milkmaid title. Anyway, I can’t wait to show you my Frida at MOMA outfit when we do go, because it’s going to be very lovely and I fell asleep dreaming of it last night.

SUNDAY NOTICE: ZOMG, before and after pics of my hair, so check back in the evening or whilst bored at work on Montag. XO!
