Flooded | December 20, 2010 | Comments (4)

Welcome to Sunday afternoon on our little balcony! It’s wee – just 6′x10′ or so – but plenty big for a cozy bistro table set and a few big potted plants. Perhaps a bird-feeder or two. It is currently quite flooded on account of the passing storms this weekend, but I can’t wait until it’s all ready for morning coffee or early evening cocktails as the sun sets.

Confession: It almost makes me wish I still smoked those devil Blacks, but not quite. A good balcony always does that to me. I have no idea why.

I love this bag. It’s another Freebird by The Sak. It’s got mesh like my mini crossbody, but I adore the dark, tawny shade and texture of this one. Even the mesh is the color of aged, dirty pennies (though it’s hard to tell from the photos).

I’m still loving my new necklace from Banana Republic – I’ve worn it four days in a row, in totally different ways. This outfit, however, is my neutral, friendly, we’re-hosting-a-birthday-party-for-thirteen-year-olds outfit. Especially since we were meeting all of the parents for the first time, and I didn’t want to scare anyone off with one of my ultra-femme getups.

There’s technically still a lot of giggling floating up from the party downstairs, but M & I are staying out of their hair since the party has died down and we want to let the girls do their own thing. We made pizzas, held a gingerbread man decorating contest and gave out awesome prizes, played a few rounds of Scene-It: The Twilight Edition, and had a Bring It On marathon.

We’re getting ready for the holidays and for M’s mama – she’s flying up this week and we can’t wait for her week-long stay here with us! Plus, she’ll get to meet my family and that’s exciting, too. We’re still hunting down those last few perfect Christmas gifts, but I think after a few more presents are wrapped and a few batches of shortbread are baked, it’ll be some kind of wonderful! I am looking forward to taking some time off and being home with my girls.

Why, then it’ll be New Years Eve, and we’ve still no clue what’s in store for us. We had a small soiree last year and wish that someone we knew was throwing an amazing house party to greet 2011. On the other hand, maybe we can ring it in someplace plush, coastal and remote, just the two of us.

What are y’all doing to ring in the New Year? Do you have a favorite New Year’s memory?

Here’s a gratuitous loverbird shot of M & I on our couch, enjoying our toasty fire! (In which M shows off her fingerless gloves from H&M and the big new butch boots from Lounge by Mark Nason. The living room and study show off fresh tulips, the prettiest birdie coasters – courtesy of my very thoughtful BFF, and my little ponies.)

My little pony. | August 15, 2010 | Comments (11)

This is the blissed out face of a femme who is not only enjoying a perfectly innocent make-believe joyride on this totally bizarre pony statue in an even more bizarre reclaimed-wood-and-nature needle minipark in a big city haystack thing, but also headed to The Front Porch, a Southern restaurant in SF’s Mission District. I’ve been wanting to check it out for months and months and damn months.

Pluses: The co-owner (maybe ex co-owner? Apparently, she’s opened Hibiscus in Oakland) is a smokin’ hot dyke. Fried green tomatoes. Old-timey decor, included car seats with seat belts for booths.

Cons: Like, none. OK, the beignets could have been better, but it was a very lovely dinner date.

I didn’t even care that it was cold. Cold enough for toggled enclosures on my chunky vest. Sorry, I’m really distracted because I’m trying to write this while The Real L Word season finale is on, and it’s, like, really hard because they’re all so mindbogglingly vapid. Most of them. Natalie just said that going to Dinah when your relationship isn’t rock solid is tricky or something, to which I replied, “Like doing the AIDS ride when you’ve just had ass surgery and the doctor is NOT advising it but also not expressly forbidding it, either, so…just inadvisable? Like that?”

I really wish that we had whatever on/off button for falling in love that she and Rose have, because then maybe people would projectile vomit around M & I a little bit less. Just a smidge. Just a touch, darling.

PS. I am wearing my pony belt buckle. YAY!

Leggings: Romeo & Juliet Couture
Ruffled blouse: INC Women
Vest: Bloom (ZOMG Mikey is talking about making fun of people with bad haircuts POT KETTLE holy fucking balls)
Belt w/ pony buckle: M’s
Belt w/ pouch thing: Modcloth
Boots: Rock n’ Rose
Bullet cuff: Portland street vendor

You must say hello to Blanket. Blanket is a neighborhood kitty who really loves me, despite giving me this total bitchface for taking a picture of him lying so preciously in this box full of dead stuff. His name is Blanket because his fur is soft like whoa.

Satin and mirrors. | July 24, 2008 | Comments (0)

When: Thursday, July 24th, 2008.

What: Saucy little vintage hat with roses, bow and veil in copper satin and tulle. Silver ‘Hearts On Fire’ earrings from Kiss My Ring, solid onyx pendant with magnet closure from Glow. Embroidered cotton tunic with mirrors and wooden beading by Romeo & Juliet Couture, trousers by Elie Tahari. Bronze and dark green peep-toe heels from Carlos by Carlos Santana, by way of Macy’s.

Confession: Before we go any further, let me say that Besame’s Enchanting Lipstick in Chocolate Kiss is a perfect shade. In fact, all of their lipsticks are incredible. I highly recommend them. Yes, they’re tiny and yes, the packaging is fussy and delicate, but you’ll get many miles out of these small wonders, especially if you use a nifty little lip brush.

I managed to snag a lovely lip brush from Fresh for 75% off the original price of nearly $30 yesterday! Also, damn you, Fresh, because you make me want your Firebird mascara and I am already in love with your Sugar Lip Glosses!

Now, I didn’t really wear this hat to work, because the busybodies would have had conniption fits all up and down the hallways, but isn’t it gorgeous? Oh, and that’s a glass of Freixenet with a splash of Odwalla’s Pomagrand, by the by. Refreshing and healthy!

NEWS FLASH: ZOMG, are y’all ready for the weekend? Tomorrow night I’ll have a fancy DJ outfit on, and the night after that a pretty brunch ensemble AND another night-on-the-town get-up, because baby is going d-a-n-c-i-n-g!
