Even Cowgirls Get The Blues | January 15, 2010 | Comments (8)

I’d talk about how abhorrent The Lovely Bones is, but I prefer to discuss pleasant things. Like the fact that we’ve all kicked off a three-day weekend. Like the fact that I came home to a cheeky tomboy with a gorgeous bouquet of blush roses just for me, and lasagna baking in the oven, and an array of tiny Haagen-Dazs cups of ice cream in the freezer, bottles of bubbly chilling in the fridge and fat, happy cinnamon rolls waiting to be baked in the morning for breakfast. Very pleasant things.

I’m going to curl up with my newest collection of locally penned shorts (Instant City, Issue No. 6, snagged at Gypsy Honeymoon in the Mission) in bed, with a brand new sparkling cocktail that is so, so good: splash of spiced pear vodka (ours is crafted by Hangar One, of course), splash of raspberry pink lemonade, topped with your sparkling beverage of choice. Not-too-sweet, perfectly crisp and refreshing!

Trick Or Treat! | October 30, 2009 | Comments (2)

2009-10-30

Twas the night before Halloween, when all through the house, not a tomboy was stirring, no femme could be roused…

We’re all snuggled up on the couch watching The Nightmare Before Christmas with the pups, who are extra ridiculous this evening. Earlier tonight, we had sundry appetizers for dinner and at long last caught the creme brulee guy, with his cart all set up at a nearby art gallery we happen to love. We each got a special flavor: Ritual Coffee (top left), S’mores (with the marshmallows) and Frosted Flakes (at the bottom). They were all so, so delicious. It’s a crispy October night here in San Francisco, so I wore one of my vintage fur stoles.

The other two pics are just for fun – last night I made a teeny tiny top hat for the petite’s magician costume, which I attached to a frou frou, feathered black headband I already had. (She also borrowed my cowboy boots, belt and cropped tux jacket with her own leggings, worn over M’s ruffled tuxedo shirt and bowtie. The real finishing touch were a pair of vintage white gloves I have and this DIY magic wand (a twiggy black chopstick from Cost Plus with a bit of white ribbon attached to the top). This updo (those antlers are just ironically placed, or something) was fancy and awesome but a happy accident. I just wanted my hair out of my face and kept sticking pins in it until it was!

Now tell me all about your awesome Halloween plans! I want to hear the juicy details about your costumes!

Girly Golden Globes | January 11, 2009 | Comments (8)

dsc00844 dsc00868 dsc00910 dsc00834 dsc00818 dsc00860

When: Sunday, Jan. 11th, 2008.

What: BCBG Max Azria floaty chiffon dress with vintage sequin cummerbund. Sequin headband from Target, faux-garter stockings by Leg Avenue by way of Madame S, leather boots by Lamica. M’s satin bowtie for a bracelet.

Scent: Fifi Chachnil Perfume Water. Described as the ultimate “pin-up” perfume, this is “an oriental scent and has notes of coriander, mandarin, rose, lily of the valley, amber, and tobacco.” It begins powdery and soft, but wanton – like a heavily lined wink from Brigitte Bardot, complete with perfectly pursed lips. Pure sex kitten. After it’s had a bit to settle down it unfurls into a smoky, subdued afterglow. I love it. It’s one of the most saucy, delightful things I think I’ve reviewed here. Which is maybe why I got a little fresh and flashed some leg up there! Oh, well.

Confession: The puppy, whose names are: Conor, Conman, Connie, puppy, Birdie and Yorkie – now has a new nickname. It is Bot-Bot. He stops whatever he’s doing, just freezes and then stares at us with wide, wide eyes. Speaking of the very, very nervous, my second-to-last photo is a little shout out to ANTM’s Marjorie from cycle whatever, you know, with the hunch action:

Oh, and I got fancy for the Golden Globes for no reason, not really, but it was fun to engineer a new updo.
